What is IconAtelier?

IconAtelier is an editor for designing app icons. You build icons from editable layers — text, shapes, symbols, and imported images — and export them for iOS, macOS, and the web.

How do I create an icon?

Start a project from the gallery, then add layers. Each layer can be a shape, a symbol, text, or an imported image, with its own fill, border, shadow, and transform. Nothing is flattened until you export.

How do I export?

Open a project and choose an export format: Apple App Icon Set (Light, Dark, Tinted), an Icon Composer package (.icon) for iOS 26, a single 1024×1024 PNG, or web favicons. Each format is shared through the standard iOS share sheet.

Do I need an account?

No. IconAtelier works without an account. Projects are stored locally on your device.

How does AI generation work?

AI generation is optional and uses your own OpenAI API key. Add your key in Settings — it is stored securely in the iOS Keychain on your device. Your text prompts are then sent directly to OpenAI to generate an image. Without a key, the rest of the app works normally.

How does the community gallery work?

Publishing to the community gallery is optional. When you publish an icon, its image, the editable project, and the details you provide (title, and optionally a display name, an App Store link, and tags) are stored on our servers so others can browse and re-import it. You can delete what you published from within the app.

Is an internet connection required?

No. Designing and exporting icons works fully offline. An internet connection is only needed for AI generation and the community gallery.

Where is my data stored?

Your projects are stored locally on your device. Your OpenAI API key is stored in the iOS Keychain. Only the icons you choose to publish are stored on our servers.

How do I delete my data?

Delete published icons from within the app. Delete the app to remove all local data, including projects and your stored API key.
